Dawn Martinsen, LCSW
In the year 2022, the Raynham Police Department applied for and received a grant to employ a part-time mental health clinician through a collaboration with Community Counseling of Bristol County. This innovative initiative aims to enhance our community policing efforts by providing immediate and specialized support during crisis situations. By integrating a mental health professional into our responses, we are taking significant steps to address the growing needs of our community related to mental health challenges.
Dawn Martinsen is the dedicated clinician for the Raynham Police Department, having joined our team in December of 2023. Dawn is a Licensed Certified Social Worker (LCSW) who holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Curry College and a master’s Degree from Bridgewater State University. Her expertise spans crisis intervention in various environments, including hospitals, schools, and community settings. Dawn has experience in both residential and in-home therapy. With her diverse background, Dawn is committed to enhancing mental health and well-being within the Raynham community.
The clinician works closely alongside a dedicated police officer, forming a collaborative partnership that prioritizes the well-being of individuals in crisis. This co-responder model ensures that both mental health and law enforcement perspectives are brought to the forefront during emergencies, allowing for more effective interventions. Together, they respond to calls involving mental health crises, offering compassionate support and resources to individuals and families in need.
The role of the mental health clinician extends beyond just responding to emergencies. The clinician is instrumental in providing follow-up care, connecting individuals with appropriate community resources, and working to de-escalate potentially volatile situations. By fostering relationships with local mental health agencies, the clinician ensures that those in need receive ongoing support and guidance. This partnership reflects our commitment to building a safer and more supportive community, where all residents can access the help they need in times of distress.
