RAYNHAM — Fire Chief Bryan LaCivita and Police Chief James Donovan are pleased to share that Raynham first responders reunited with the kitten they rescued last weekend from a storm drain.
On Tuesday, Aug. 15 at the Raynham Fire Department, Raynham first responders who aided in the rescue of the kitten had the chance to reunite with it.
During the reunion, firefighters held and fed “Storm,” a 5-week-old male kitten.
The rescue occurred on Sunday, Aug. 13. Just after midnight, Raynham Police and Fire responded to the area of Princess Lane for the report of a kitten stuck inside of a storm drain.
An on-scene assessment determined that the 5-week-old kitten had fallen into the drain. The kitten could be heard making small noises inside. Due to the lack of light, and out of an abundance of caution, first responders made the decision to wait until daylight to proceed with rescue efforts. Crews lowered a pet crate, food and water into the drain before leaving to help ensure the kitten’s safety overnight.
Crews returned at approximately 7:30 a.m., and could hear the kitten once again. Firefighter Dom Kuran then climbed into the eight-foot-deep storm drain and was able to retrieve the kitten and bring it to safety.
“Storm” is currently staying with Raynham Animal Control Officer Linda Brackett and a number of potential adopters are already being considered.
